Home / Emergency Locksmith Miami / Broken Key Extraction Miami
Key snapped off in the lock? Mobile Locksmith Miami removes broken keys from house doors, business locks, car doors and ignitions, and can cut a replacement key on the spot so you are not left locked out.

Where We Extract Broken Keys
- Front doors, deadbolts and gate locks at homes and apartments
- Storefront, office and commercial door locks
- Car doors and trunk locks
- Vehicle ignitions
- Padlocks, mailboxes and cabinet locks
What Not to Do
The most common reason a simple extraction turns into a lock replacement is a home attempt that pushes the fragment deeper.
- Do not push the other half of the key back in to try to turn the lock
- Do not use super glue, since it can bond the fragment to the pins and ruin the cylinder
- Do not dig with a screwdriver or knife
- If part of the key is sticking out, leave it alone so it can be gripped cleanly
How Extraction Works
Our technician uses extraction tools made for the job to grip or hook the fragment and draw it out along the keyway without taking the lock apart. Once the piece is out, we check the lock for the cause, which is usually a worn key, a dry or misaligned lock, or a key that was forced. In most cases the lock is undamaged and keeps working.
A New Key Afterwards
The two halves of a broken key are normally enough to cut a new one. For vehicles with chip keys, the new key also has to be paired to the car, which is covered under Car Key Replacement Miami. If the lock itself is worn, we will explain the options, including rekeying or replacement.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can you remove a broken key without damaging the lock?
In most cases, yes. Extraction is done through the keyway and the lock is left intact.
Can you make a new key from the broken pieces?
Yes. If both pieces are available we can usually cut a new key from them. Without them, a key can be made from the lock.
Why did my key break?
Keys usually break from metal fatigue after years of use, or from being forced in a stiff or misaligned lock. A lock that needs effort to turn is worth having checked.
Is this available at night?
Yes. Broken key extraction is available 24/7.
