Home / Commercial Locksmith Miami / Master Key Systems Miami
Too many keys, and no clear record of who can open what? Mobile Locksmith Miami designs, installs and maintains master key systems for offices, retail, apartment buildings, condo associations and multi-tenant properties across Miami-Dade.

What a Master Key System Does
A master key system sets up levels of access across one property. Each person carries a single key that opens only the doors they are meant to use, while a manager or owner carries one key that opens them all. It replaces the heavy key ring with a plan.
How Access Levels Are Structured
- Change keys open one door or one suite, such as a single office or apartment
- Master keys open every door in a group, such as one floor or one department
- Grand master keys open every group in the building, for owners and property managers
- Restricted areas such as server rooms, cash offices and storage can be kept off the master entirely
Who Uses Them
- Office buildings with several departments or tenants
- Apartment and condo buildings where management needs access to every unit
- Retail stores separating sales floor, stockroom and office
- Schools, clinics, warehouses and hospitality properties
- Short-term rental operators managing several units
How We Set One Up
We start with a walk-through and a list of doors and people, then draw up a keying chart that shows which key opens which door. Existing locks are rekeyed to the new system where they are compatible, and replaced only where they are not. You receive the keys stamped by level and a copy of the chart, so future changes do not depend on memory.
For tighter control over duplicates, the system can be built on restricted keyways. See High Security Locks Miami for how key control works.
Keeping the System Secure
A master key system is only as good as its records. When a master key is lost or a keyholder leaves without returning one, the affected locks should be rekeyed. Because the chart already exists, this is a planned job and not a full replacement.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can my existing locks be used in a master key system?
Often, yes. If the locks share a compatible keyway they can usually be rekeyed into the system. Mixed brands may need some cylinders replaced.
What happens if a master key is lost?
The locks that key opens should be rekeyed. With a keying chart on file, this can be done without redesigning the whole system.
Is a master key system less secure?
A well designed system on quality cylinders is secure for most properties. Sensitive rooms can be left off the master, and restricted keyways prevent unauthorized copies.
How many doors do I need for it to be worth it?
There is no minimum. Even a small office with a handful of doors benefits when different people need different access.
